| SABATTUS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- For a second day the Sabattus Elementary School was closed as a pest management company worked to kill bed bugs found in two classrooms.
The problem was discovered when students developed bite marks. Atlantic Pest Solutions searched the building using dogs and found two classrooms were infested.
|
Wednesday the company used extreme heat to kill the bugs. They also
searched the busses and found that two had an infestation as well.
The Superintendent says there is no guarantee the bugs won't come back because they likely came from a home in the community.
The Department of Education expects bed bugs to be discovered in more
schools around the state and is working with the Maine Centers for
Disease Control and the Department of Agriculture to create guidelines
for schools facing the same issue.
Atlantic Pest Solutions says the bed bug problem nationwide is larger
right now than they would have ever expected. They have 8 crews
working every day and are booked two weeks in advance.
They also say you can look for signs of the bugs in your home by
looking for blood spots, droppings or castoff skins from the bugs.
