Wood Destroying Organisms: FAQs

Q: Does your system include a container or building?

A: No, the customer must provide his or her own container. We provide the heat-treatment system which includes a heating unit, bower, controls, and temperature sensors with data recording.

Q: Where can I purchase a container?

A: There are numerous places you can go to get a container. Used refrigerated trailers work well as do steel shipping containers. A simple internet search on those terms should bring up many options.

Q: What size container should I purchase?

A: The container can be any dimensions as long as it doesn’t exceed 8.5’ wide by 9.5’ high and up to 53’ long.

Q: How many pallets can I fit in my container?

A: A standard 53’ long container will hold approximately 500 standard size stringer pallets.

Q: Do I need to pour a concrete slab?

A: The container and heater need to be set on a firm stable surface able to support the weight of the P-800HTRS (1800 lbs) and the container, but a concrete slab is not required.

Q; What other site preparations would I have to do?

A: You will have to check your local code requirements regarding electrical and gas installations and make arrangements for gas and electric to be connected to the P-800HTRS unit

Q: What are the treatment times?

A: Treatment times vary depending on the moisture content and temperature of the pallets going in to the container. Outside air temperature will affect treatment times slightly. Because the P-800HTRS system recirculates the heated air in the chamber, the effects of outside air temperature on treatment times should be minimal. On average, recycled pallets can be treated in anywhere from 90 minutes to four hours. Green pallets can take from three to eight hours to treat.

Q: What are the fuel requirements?

A: The P-800HTRS system can be set up to run on either natural gas or propane.

Q: What are the fuel and electrical consumption rates?

A: At full output of 800,000 BTU/hr the P-800HTRS heater will use about 9 gallons of LP per hour or about 8 therms (800 CF) of natural gas per hour. Because this unit recirculates the air inside the chamber, it will cycle between high and low fire, therefore actual fuel consumption will be lower. Electrical usage is approximately 10kW per hour.

Q: Do you guarantee HT certification?

A: The P-800HTRS system complies with all current ISPM-15 standards and guidelines.

Q: Why should I use this instead of a kiln?

A: This will depend on the needs of your company. The P-800HTRS is designed as a low cost solution specifically to heat-treat pallets according to ISPM-15 guidelines.

Q: Is financing available?

A: Thermal Remediation® from TEMP-AIR does not offer our own financing, however we can refer you to some financing agencies.
