Wood Destroying Organisms

Thermal Remediation® has developed an efficient, easy to use, and cost effective pallet and wood packaging heat treatment system - the P800HTRS.

Why heat treatment:

To prevent the spread of non-indigenous, wood boring plant pests, the International Plat Protection Convention (IPPC) developed an international standard for the heat-treating of Solid Wood Packaging Materials (SWPM). If left unchecked, timber pests imported with WPM could cause significant economic damage to the agricultural and forest resources of the importing country. Under the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM-15), all solid wood packaging material must be either heat treated to 56ºC to the core for 30 minutes or fumigated with Methyl Bromide.

Additionally, the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has enacted a quarantine for numerous states aimed at stopping the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), which has been spreading throughout the U.S., primarily due to human activity.

A timber pest treatment with Methyl Bromide requires a licensed pesticide applicator, is harmful to the environment, and has an associated safety risk. Heat treatment is a safe and effective alternative.
